April 14, 2020 Letter to Families

Dear Tweedsmuir Families,

We hope that you enjoyed your long weekend and had the opportunity to connect virtually with family and friends.  We want to let you know that we continue to be here for you and encourage you to continue to reach out with any questions or concerns that you might have.  If you have any changes regarding childcare, food security or technology needs for your family, please let me know.

Thank you to those of you who have reached out and replied to our attempts to connect with all families.  If you have not heard from your child’s teacher, we likely have the wrong contact information or there is a challenge in getting our information to you.  Please check your phone to ensure that it is not blocking or silencing unknown callers (as it may prevent your teacher’s attempts to reach you).  Please email lordtweedsmuir@sd40.bc.ca with any updated contact information.  Be sure to include your child’s name with your email.

This week you can expect a few more curricular tasks/assignments for your child to complete as our skills with remote learning for both staff and students continue to develop and increase.  If you have not already established a schedule for remote learning and need some ideas, please connect with your classroom teacher who would be happy to work together with you.  Please be assured that we are not expecting you to take on the role of teacher.  Continue to reach out to your classroom teacher with any questions or concerns you may have.  We know that online learning can take more time as we address some of the challenges associated with everyone at home needing access to technology. Lastly, as you review digital citizenship with your child, please be reminded that your child does have the option of turning of the video feature for either platform (MS Teams or G-Suite applications).

We are pleased to let you know that our weekly meal support for families in need is also beginning this week.  Please reach out to me directly with any questions that you might have concerning this support.  In addition, technology loans have begun and childcare support for our Emergency Service Workers is in place.

A reminder to complete the new district permission form for remote learning if you have not already done so.  You should have received notification from School Cash Online.  If you have not signed up for School Cash Online and need support, please contact the school office at 604.517.6070.

Please continue to check the school district website at www.newwestschools.ca for the most current information.  Continue to stay safe and be well.

Best,

Jen Richter
